The Welwyn Hatfield Times
The Welwyn Hatfield Times
The Welwyn Hatfield Times has been serving the population of the borough since 1928.
It is one of few remaining paid-for titles in the county.
It prides itself on its close involvement with the community.
Based in WGC, the title also covers Hatfield and the surrounding villages including Welwyn, Codicote, Knebworth, Brookmans Park and Welham Green.
The Welwyn Hatfield Times is known for its many campaigning activities including its (then) successful bid to get a superhospital built in Hatfield (later overturned by the Government), bids to save the existing QE2 Hospital, the NoWayto10k Green Belt campaign, Hatfield Town Centre regeneration and many, many, more.
The paper also has close links with Times Territory charities such as the Willow Foundation, which it helped launch, Isabel Hospice and the Hertfordshire Breast Unit Appeal.
The paper is market leader in every advertising category.
The WHT's website, whtimes24.co.uk is one of the most successful in the country and the leading site among Archant's Herts and Cambs titles.
The WHT's editor Terry Mitchinson was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Hertfordshire for his services to local newspapers and to the county.
Statement from Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps...
Grant Shapps MP said: "In discussing local press with fellow MPs in Parliament, it is immediately clear the Welwyn Hatfield Times stands out as a newspaper that seeks to not only inform, but also campaign on behalf of people and issues in Welwyn Hatfield.
"I'd go as far as to say that colleagues look at my local paper with some envy."
